I have this AE4 coin partially attributed to either Arcadivs Ric IX Rome 57e or Valentinian II Ric IX Rome 57a. The reverse is two Victories with wreaths. VICTORIA AVGGG. The MM is are and I believe T, but it is an odd looking T if it is one at all. What do you think?

Without doing any searches, the last letter looks like a Gamma to me. Let me do some checking.

I think this could be Theodosius echizento, I'm not too good with these later coins (trying to build up my knowledge now) but I think I can see an 'ODO' at 10'O clock. After accepting this is there its pretty easy to fit the proceeding 'DN THE' in. The legend would probably break there and you would have 'SIVS PF AVG' on the other side.

If the reverse is 'VICTORIA AVGGG' (almost certainly is) then your RIC would be RIC IX Rome 56b and you choice of mints would be 'RP', 'RT' or 'RQ'. Of these I would say 'Q' could be ruled out and its 50/50 with the other two. I'd probably guess at 'P' as the character does not look symmetrical to me, although its difficult to tell if this is by design or damage.

Much better pics btw, you got a new camera or set-up?

These small coins can drive a person nuts. The legends are small to begin with, but when they are worn also it makes it twice as hard to read. I was able to clean the coin a little better and under the microscope it indeed turned out to be Theodosius. The second letter in the MM is a P, but it is struck sideways. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

I fully agree - sometimes they just need a fresh set of eyes. The longer I look at a coin the more 'blind' I become to new possibilities. One of the reasons I've not collected much past Constantine is the fact that they can all look so alike, without a bit of legend detail they can be murder to ID 100%.

I know after Constantine they all start to look alike. These small coins get overlooked when they are being picked through before being packaged in lots, so they is a small chance that a rare one may show up.
