Described as "Augustus AE dupondius, altar of Lugdunum", this is another coin that got my attention; the patina is one factor, and having a coin from Augustus would be another Right now I'm researching what is a reasonable price for this coin--if you have any ideas please share, and thanks!

Now that is a beauty. As you know I love patina and this coin is in excellent shape. I looked around and this coin can cost a wide range. From $40-50 to upwards of $300. I found two that are of similar quality. The first is on ebay and is being offered at the moment at $99:

The second I found on Vcoins, but it's not as nice because it lacks the patina. It's being offered for $100:

Personally, if I had the chance and it was under the amounts mentioned above, I would jump on this coin. If you decide not to buy it, let me know because I may be interested

Thanks for all your input! Well...it must have been late when I looked at coin, because I saw only $75, when it actually said 575 USD. Yes...nice patina, but I'm passing on this coin.

Yeah, I thought this coin would garner a big price tag. Nice coin as it may be, I wouldn't pay that. I'm too "frugal" as someone put it.

OK, I want to thank you DVCollector for making me want to buy another coin. I found this similar coin and made an offer of $75 which was accepted. However, I see two sets of door handles/knockers on this coin, but I cannot find another example like it. Am I looking for boogeymen or is there something peculiar about this coin?

Jwh, I agree--it's a stunning coin, and you found a real good deal--and nice patina too!
I see the difference in the temple {knobs?)--great if you found a scarcer type!
I'll look forward to hearing what your research turns up.
