I made a last minute bid on a Hawaiian "Quarter" last week, but noticed the photos were of a dollar (Dala in Hawaiian). There was a "no return" policy but I said "What the heck" and bid $125. I won the coin at $123 or thereabouts. Needless to say I was like a cat in a room full of rocking chairs waiting for the coin to arrive. This morning it showed up in a baggie and envelop with no packing. I don't mind as you can see. Thoughts on grade? I have nothing to go on to grade this coin. The only wear evident is on King Kalakawa's sideburns and mustache, so I should think it will go XF. As an aside, the surfaces really look PL. Could it be a Proof?! By the way, it weighs right on the "money" @ 26.68gms. Paleoguy45

That's ludicrous. You, sir, are a winnar.

XF, I think, and possibly cleaned - surfaces are a little bright. It's highly unlikely it's an impaired Proof, as only 26 were struck and none of those were released to the public.

Either way, at an absolute worst-case scenario you got the coin at about 1/4 of street value. If the surfaces are original, you paid about 15% of its' worth.

Fruit for you:

Real nice pick up for sure. I love that there's no entrance exam for selling on ebay. There are things like this on there every day.....and all you have to do is figure out how to access the stuff. Did you know that if you do a search and it says there are 879 pages of results ... and you go to the URL and manually change the page number to say ... 650 ... it will tell you that it can only display 10,000 results.

So if there are a third of a million listings at any given time ... why only 10,000 available? Rhetorical question.

Yep, nice score.

EF Great score! What a relief it didn't suffer damage from the mail.

Merry Christmas!
You got an XF40-45 Hawaiian dollar. Nice luster. A little wear or weakness on the hair and beard may keep it in the XF40 area more than the XF45. Its a $300+ coin! Nice find!
