Good evening Gang! As many ate, trying to assemble a Morgan set and to the point that I'm ready to get the 1893 s. My fear is these have appreciated SO much in the past ten years... My worry is they're overheated. While no one knows, anyone having any opinions about these things and the possibility they're overcooked? I'm looking at one that is graded PCGS F12 to VF 30. Pricing from 4-5k... Your opinions are appreciated, take care
Rest in Peace

Well, no one can say for sure. I know that they really aren't that rare (dozens of them on ebay), but Morgans are one of the most collected coins along with the lincolns. I see it kind of in the league of the 1909-s vdb. Though it's scarcer when compared directly to that date, it is powered more by demand than lack of supply. Does that mean it will devalue? Who knows, but if your finishing off a set, I wouldn't hesitate to purchase one as the joy of owning a complete morgan set would outweigh any kind of potential financial loss.

If I was in your shoes and that is all I need to finish off the set I would look far and wide and find the best looking coin for my money. I really dont see these as being over hyped. I agree the 1909 s vdb is a rare coin as well and it too has done well over the years to increase in value since I started collecting back in 1980. I purchased my buddy a 1914-d lincoln in G 6+ in 1990 for $64.00 now it is like $162.00 or more not that huge of an upside but a steady increase. Others rise faster. Good luck.

Not too bad, just under 5% per year a little better than the official rate of inflation. Maybe broke even or a small loss compared to the real rate.
