Hey, out of curiosity how many out there are currency collectors, any special areas of interest? Any interest in a free registry of currency?

Right now I'm just getting started on the 1937 issues, $1's complete and moving onto the $2's. Also have a complete set of 1900 and 1923 Shinplasters.

I am a banknote collector as well. I don't have an example of the $1,000 bills, but have every series including the 1954 Devil's Face onward...just waiting a few more days to add the new polymer $100.

I have several 1's and 2's from the multicoloured series and just missing a few of the 1967 serial # prefixes.

I have a few notes from 1937, however anything before that I am limited to the $1 going back to the Dominion of Canada Princess Patricia and the 1923 $2 plus a couple of 1923 $0.25 shinplasters.

More recently, I have taken a break from the banknotes to add to the coins!

My main hobby is collecting banknotes (coins is more of a secondary hobby).

I mainly collect the 1954 series, both Devils Head and Modified but have recently been acquiring 1937 notes.

Like Canadian Banknote, my collection has definitely veered more towards the bills at the expense of coins.

I've heard that population estimates are based on 10% of overall printed. Anyone hear of a better method? Just find it frustrating from a collecting point of view that sure 7 million were printed originally, but that was xx number of years ago, how many are left now, let alone in what condition.

I collect Canadian paper when the opportunity comes up. I always ask when I go into a dealer if they have any Canadian paper, you never know what you might get.
My local coin club had there semi-annual show on 10/30. I made the rounds going to each dealer. I got lucky!
I spent $10 ($2 each), bought 5 $1 bills from him all in uncirculated condition. 2 of the 1967 no serial numbers, no big deal. The big deal was I got 3 Consecutive 1954 Devil's hair notes! For $6! JACKPOT

So keep looking as there are deals out there like this all the time!

That's a great deal! Eagerly awaiting my first Devil's face in the mail.

How are you storing them- regular plastic sleeve's or going for the hard air tight slabs from BCW?

Concerning storage - regular plastic sleeve's seem come in a couple of sizes and the smaller ones are just right for USA banknotes but not tall enough for Canadian notes which can lead to possible bending of the top of the note - so be careful of that. I recommend that the best way to enjoy your notes is to get a 3 ring binder and put in the holders that come 3 to a sleeve. Plenty of protection surrounds the note and and you could put more than one next to each other.
For the consecutive Devil's hair notes - I will eventually get them graded, probably use PMG since I am an
ANA member, I can submit them and they seem to be one of the premier graders. When I submit them, I will also send a 1954 mis-matched serial $1 that I picked up from ebay about 3 months ago in CU.

With the Canadian currency, be on the lookout for the series from 1935. These are tough to find in nice condition and I think that you will find that they appreciate in value faster than the 1937 series. Here you have the challenge of finding both the English and French versions of the same note.
