Now that I am retired I have time to look at some of the odds and ends I have gathered over the years. I see there are different types of this Canadian 1859 1 cent coin.
1. 1858/9 Wide 9
2. 1859 Wide 9
3. 1859 Double punched Narrow 9 Type 1
4. 1859 Double punched Narrow 9 Type 2

What is this one? I'm guessing the 1859 Wide 9? This is the best picture I can do with my cheap digital camera.

Its not a wide 9. Not sure what it is without a better picture.

Though it is worn, it looks like a reverse group "J" in the Haxby catalog. Group J reverses represent about 21% of the hundreds of dies used to mint the 1859 Canadian Cents. The pictures are too fuzzy to ID the obverse die.
