after a 20 year hiatus in collecting Roman Imperial coins, I have begun again. I'm looking to buy a nice Hadrian Bronze As 26mm (10.44 grams) Rome mint: 134-138 A.D.

Asking price is $350

1) to me, it looks genuine, what do you think?
2) what do you think about the price, I have been out it for a while..

thanks.

The coin appears to be genuine with nice detail and patina. Is it woth $350? I'd say yes. I would try and make an offer for $250-$275.

I see nothing in your image to make me question it's authenticity. It's a very nice looking coin with an excellent portrait and obverse strike, but weak reverse strike. In looking to attribute this coin, RIC 812 I believe, I have not been able to establish an approximate value just yet, but $350 sounds a tad high to me (but if you stick around on this discussion board you will find I have a reputation for being somewhat frugal). I will keep looking and see what I can come up with for a value.

BTW

In looking on Vcoins I could not find a match for your coin, but some very nice and interesting Hadrian AE AS for sale under $200 and many near the $100 mark. Again, I would say the image of your Hadrian is very nice. So, is it worth it? I do believe that is your call. If you want to go into this purchase from a position of knowledge, take a look at this link: http://search2.vcoins.com/results.a...c6d1bee55a8c

It will just provide you with some perspective. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

thanks for the link, it gives me a bit of perspective. after seeing those links I think that my coin is a bit overpriced at 350 but not much. I will probably offer him 275 as echizento suggested. I will let you know what happens.

and btw, it is RIC 812. Nice call.

For comparisons have a look at the VCOINS website. I usually check there before committing to a buy with ancients. They say that any one time, there are around $30 million worth of ancients for sale.
