The Luis & Clark has sentimental value to me as I lived in Astoria Oregon the place where they wintered in 1805. Nice BU example GR58. Today my choice will be an east coast coin with a handsome design and only 25,018 mintage. 1935 Connecticut

muddler - I might have to keep a eye out for classic half dollars ... I really like the looks of that Connecticut.
Paleoguy45 - I know we are going to see some really nice coins from you, with that nice High Jump as only your #7 ... wow!

But he had his Hudson as the #10 . I just wonder what else he has for us, let alone Nicklesearcher when he gets back from Europe.

Great coins shown so far! I am back from Croatia and eager to share a few of my favorites ... and will do so as soon as I overcome the fog of jet lag and get my head wrapped around the concept of my personal top-10. Maybe a few later tonight ... for sure some tomorrow. David

Tough task to choose only 10 from my 50 coin classic set ... but here I go ... and I hope to highlight a few great coins that have not had much exposure at the CCF. Apologize for being late on the thread ... #10 ... 1936 San Francisco - Oakland Bay Bridge Half DollarOne of the few USA coins to commemorate an engineering achievement. There are others ... extra credit for anyone who can list them from the classic silver set! Interesting to note that the Golden Gate bridge did not receive a coin as well. Distribution of the Bay Bridge half dollar was unique in that you could have purchased one for the original price of $1.50 by driving up to booths at the bridge entrances. Fabulous grizzly bear on the obverse ... and wonderful detail on the reverse showing the bridge spanning the bay. Here is my PCGS MS66/CAC Bay Bridge ... net distribution of 71,424 coins ... my #10 favorite. David

My #9 ... 1900 Lafayette Memorial Silver DollarThe only classic silver commemorative dollar. This coin was the first legal tender coin to depict an American president ... Washington on the obverse. Also the first legal tender coin to depict the same person on both the obverse and reverse ... in this case .. Marie-Joseph Roch Gilbert du Motier, Marquis de la Fayette. We know him today as Lafayette. Struck from hand made dies ... the letters and numbers were individually hand punched ... this coin is the only classic silver commemorative coin where specialists can collect the various die varieties. Wish that I had bought a few at the original issue price of $2.00. 50,026 Lafayette dollars were struck in one day at the Philadelphia Mint on December 14, 1899 (but dated 1900). Net distribution was 36,026 coins ... the remaining unsold 14,000 coins sat unloved in a USA Treasury vault where they were melted in 1945 ... the Treasury obviously unaware of their numismatic value. Here is my PCGS MS64 Lafayette Dollar: David

Good to have you back from your trip NS .. Those are some very nice coins you selected for your 9 and 10. I am thinking, I should just take what ever your top 10 list is .. and make my need to buy list .. but then I am betting a couple of yours are going to be some very high dollar coins.
PaleoGuy45 ..I like that Olympic Tennis coin .. it is high up on my list of coins to get. I have 4 of the 8 95/96 Olympic coins so far.

I have a few of the classic half dollar, but I am so into the Modern dollars right now .. they seemed to be my favorites. For my #7 is the 1992 D Olympic UNC Dollar. Mintage 187,552 I am not into sports, but somehow this coins design strikes me as one of my favorites, based on just design. The obverse was designed by John R. Deecken, of a pitcher firing a ball to home plate. Interesting fact: Uncirculated dollars minted in Denver have the phrase XXV OLYMPIAD impressed four times around the edge, alternately inverted, on a reeded background.
