Just starting to collect investment grade American Silver Eagles, and would like to keep them in an album similar to the DANSCO 7181.....however,
I also like the Air-Tite holders for these coins. Does anyone know of an album of similar quality that would accept the Air-Tite holders within the pages ?
I see that Air-Tite makes some similar albums, but am not sure I like them. Anyone have experience with these ? If so, how does their quality compare to the DANSCO albums ?
Thanks in advance for any replies.

I too would like to see an album that takes the plastic housing for my proof ASE's and my modern commemorative dollars. I have yet to find such a product.

For my Australian Kookaburra collection I use an air-tite holder that I bought through JP's Corner. I am not sure if I am allowed to post a link, but you can find it on google. The album holds 5 coins per page and has six pages. Each page is a clear plastic sleeve that holds a pull out cardboard holder. The holder has 5 openings where you pop an air-tite into it. The holder has a kind of matte black finish on one side and a black velvet style finish on the other side. The price is reasonable but I found I also had to purchase my air-tites through the same company as not every air-tite on the market will fit. All in all it was worth the investment as the album really works out nicely for showing people my coins and for the ease of replacing coins or moving them around from page to page. Edit: CitizenPatriot just linked to the website and album that I was describing.

Yeah, I saw those listed on JP's Corner site, but wasn't sure if they'd suit my needs.
From your description, it seems they will. I like the idea of the extra layer of protection the Air-Tite holders offer, and if I can fit them in an album I've got the best of both worlds !
I do believe you've answered my question - thanks !

Is that page kind of like a tray that holds 20 coins? It looks like there is a clear plastic strap that goes over each spot to hold the coins in place. I like the idea but have a few questions. Does the plastic strap hold the coins tightly in place without them having a chance to fall out when moving the binder or maybe pulling it down off a shelf? It would seem to me that the straps would get worn out over time from putting air-tites in and out of the slots.
I do like the look of the binder and the fact that it holds 20 coins per page, but would like a little more information regarding the design.

The strap holds the coin in it's capsule very tightly. I have seen no evidence of the strap wearing out. Eagle makes these same albums for slabbed coins (I have none, all of my slabbed coins become unslabbed) and for proof sets, which albums I do have and love, as it lets you enjoy your proof sets. The coins do not come out going onto or off of a shelf, or going into my breifcase and going to work, or being thrown on the bed when I am adding more coins. You can also get replacement pages.

Regarding th Eagle brand pages you are using....the photo gives the impression these will fit in any 3-ring binder - correct ? If so, it might just be another solution.....

Yes, any standard three ring binder. You can get the pages with their binder (nice, well made, holds up to lots of use) or get just the pages by themseves and put in your own binder. Direct from Eagle Coin Holders . com or from Brent-Krueger (sp?), and I'm sure from many others.

'investment grade' silver eagles are graded by a major grading company. Raw silver eagles are silver bullion, with few exceptions.
'investment grade' silver eagles should be stored in boxes made to accommodate the holders.

Off topic, but your point is well taken. Semantics aside, I buy both raw, uncirculated and slabbed coins. I store them in the manner which pleases me. Guess what ? I break 'em out and store them in albums.
Does that detract from their "investment" value ? Perhaps. Opinions differ. I happen to think that slabbed coins are a bit overrated. If I had a Silver Eagle for every person that said "buy the coin, not the slab", my collection would be complete.
That said, thanks for your service in the USAF. I served 1978-1982 with an explosives detector dog, stationed mostly in Okinawa.

Re: the Air-Tite album and Air-Tite holders: I have several of these albums, great for storing complete sets and for different sized coins such as proof sets. The card and the album is about 6" square, and can store 6 cards. For ASEs, that equals 30 coins in Direct-Fit "H" sized holders or 24 "I" sized holders with the volara ring. The cards come in green, blue, red and burgundy, as well as the standard black. The best pricing I've found on the 'Net on the album, cards and holders is from http://www.valleycoin.com.
