Yesterday: After I stayed home to sign for delivery of a box of twenty-five silver bullion coins I paid $60/oz. for,
I went to a couple of coin shops.

Of course, on the day I receive my biggest coin purchase of the year,
this beautiful 1936 Oregon Trail Half-Dollar was in my dealer's case.

I didn't have one until now, because I was holding out for an Oregon that was not a 1926 and had no dark toning.

1936-Oregon-Trail
1936-Oregon-Trail
1936-Oregon-Trail
1936-Oregon-Trail

If only I had a 1933-D Oregon like this!

My pics fail to show how blast-white this coin is in hand.

Very nice. This coin is on my must list for the 7070. I however want one with toning. For some reason I like this coin with some color.

I love rainbow-toned Oregons, but the typical examples I see in dealers' cases are 1926's (P or S) with dark toning on the rims. This isn't bad, mind you, but dark rims alone usually aren't the "attractive" toning someone would search for.

Heck, I'd buy a 1926 if it was toned like the Merc Dime in BLUESZONE's avatar!

My favorite design out of all commemorative coins, judging by the photos the grade should be at least MS 65.

I bought one not long ago in NGC slab, can't find a decent one in local shows.

Beautiful coin. IMO the Oregon Trail is by far the best designed of all the commemorative halves.

Congratulations on your wonderful coin.

This is truly IMHO one of the greatest of all-time USA coin designs.

An exceptional addition to your collection ... I am pleased for you.

Great coin.

I only recently discovered the old commemorative coins while trying to fill the slots in my 7070 (I felt putting modern commemoratives in there was cheating) and added a blank half dollar page to the album for those.

I remember looking at my RedBook as a kid and just browsing through the commemorative section and not fully understanding the significance.

Again, you have a great coin and great condition since I recently learned that in those days the mint dumped the excess unsold coins into circulation and most of the common ones I have appear to have ended up.

I love the design of this coin! Beautiful, artistic, historical- it has it all. I so wish that the mint still made beautiful coins like these. Designs today look so shallow and effortless. It's too bad.
