I just acquired this coin and am not sure if it is proof or a regular UNC/BU as I am completely unfamiliar with this type. The background can be described as 'milky', not quite mirror-like but close. There are no frosted features, but they seem to be rather high-relief. Thanks in advance for any help, I hope the pics are decent enough.

Looks MS to me, not proof. A proof would have a very reflective, mirror-like background sometimes even when quite worn.

Thanks for the quick reply. The more I look at it, the more MS it looks to me also. It was just the high-relief and unfamiliarity with the type that made me uncertain, plus the fact that in 1966 many proofs were not frosty.

I have seen silver proofs of these. This one looks like an uncirculated copper nickel version.

To determine if yours is a silver proof or not, look up the ASW for this coin in Krause, then weigh yours. Compare weights. A copper nickel version would weigh less than the silver one.
