What do you fine folks think of this?

5-Mark-1914-German-Coin-Medal----Counterfeit-Prob

Looks like somebody cast a replica of the 1914 five mark coin and turned it into a pendant.

Or it's a real coin and it's been painted over.

Ideas?

Probably real, the pendant seems quite old. These coins aren't worth that much, to the rich they would have been nice to use.

Would not call that a counterfeit, as there was no such coin. :) Prussia issued that piece as a silver coin (diameter 38 mm) in 1913 and 1914. If the piece in your pendant has that size, it will be a third party gilded coin. If it's smaller (the 5M gold coins, issued until 1878, had a diameter of 17 mm), it would be a fantasy piece combining the specifications of the older gold coin and the design of that newer Wilhelm II coin ...

Well, it's 38 mm, but the coin is magnetic.

So it's probably some casting replica of the actual coin.

Vielen dank, boys.

Looks like a plated original to me. No idea why it would be magnetic, though.

Maybe it is not the piece itself that is magnetic but the "holder"? Just a guess though ...

It's as magnetic as a paper clip. The coin itself, I mean.

I call the owner and told him the news. He laughed and told me to keep it.

"Nah. You come get it. And bring more coins!"

We both had a laugh.

Life is good, folks.
