Two coins recently came into my possession through a family member. I know next to nothing about coins and they look very old to me. One I think is Roman, the inscription read CONSTANTINE, the other I think is also from the classical age but I've no idea exactly when, there are lots of symbols on the reserve but the only writing I can make out seems to say 'IMPER'...maybe.

The colours of the metal on the pictures is a bit deceptive, the first could be copper the second looks more like silver

I would really appreciate any help you guys could give me.

Thanks!

#1 does indeed appear to be a genuine ancient Roman, of Constantine the Great.

#2 is, unfortunately, a replica of a much earlier Roman coin, from the time of the dictator Sulla. It's supposed to look like these, with the word "ITERVM" (meaning "for the second time")at the bottom of the reverse and the word "L.SVLLA" on the obverse. You can see where those letters are supposed to be, but they've been garbled beyond recognition. I suspect whoever made this replica was working off of a photograph or old line-drawing, rather than an actual coin.

Thank you very much for the info. A pity the SVLLA coin is a replica but still good to know something about it.

The first coin is indeed a beauty.

Its Constantine I - RIC VII Ticinum 167 and was made in the 4th workshop around 320AD.

DN CONSTANTINI MAX AVG translates to "Our lords the Constantines, greatest Augusti", quite a confident statement!

Not worth a huge amount but a very pleasing looking coin.
