What would be the most you would pay (shipping included) for this coin of Magnentius? Thanks. Edited by VisigothKing 11/06/2011 11:25 am

I sold a few Magnentius coins recently (one was not in RIC) in the same kind of condition and they went for about £15 ($24) inc postage, none of mine however had the large christogram on and thats what will push this price up. These have been selling well recently and I would expect you to have to pay around £50 ($80). I see BINs on ebay well into the $$$s. Would I pay that? No. To me I'd be uncomfortable paying more than £30 ($50) for this coin, you may not have the same tastes as me though. I've not looked into rarity (perceived or otherwise) but I'm pretty sure some of the other chi-rho issuers coins are generally rarer. Whatever you decide, set a price and stick to it, you can only spend your money once but more coins are always available. Good luck.

You hit this one right on the head bobby! This one is $49.18 shipped. Now I feel a little more comfortable shelling out the dough for this one as a Christmas gift for myself, with the holidays on the horizon and all Thanks bobby! Even though I've decided to pick this one up, I'm still curious as to what others would pay for it.

These Chi-Roe coins are highly sought after these days for whatever reason. I saw where you are buying the coin and if you haven't already agreed to purchase, might I make a suggestion. Make an offer. A reasonable offer. I have done this with a few of the sellers on this site and have had fair luck. Not all of the sellers will agree to an offer, but what have you to lose? All the seller can say is yes or no. If no and you still want the coin, pay the price. If yes, you have gained a little.
From what I've seen over the past few months, Christogram coins are a hot commodity. Under $50 is a fair price even with the coins condition of being pitted. Take it and run if you con't get the price down. That's my opinion. Amy you know what they say about opinions. Everyone has one just like a particular body part.

For that one I could give 10$. But if same coin but in much better condition I could give up to 100$ depending on condition of coin.

This coin has a readable mintmark TRP (Trier 1st shop). That is a positive since some of us require mintmarks on flan. Many of these are short flan and are missing the mark. I believe you could get a better looking (better surfaces) coin with no mintmark for the same price as this one so the question I'd ask is which means more to you. The price seem high to me but the market for low grade coins has gone up since more new collectors have joined the hobby so people like me may be wrong in avoiding coins like this. Markets change with the opinions of people in the market so all that really matters here is whether you like this coin enough to spend that price. This type is popular among Christian collectors and particularly those interested in church politics, the Arian Heresy and Roman politics in the days when some rulers were Christian and some were not. The story is told briefly on my page below but you may be more interested in the fact that the coin there cost $27 in 1991 so you can decide if such imperfect coins have doubled in 20 years. http://www.forumancientcoins.com/do.../feac26.html

Yeah I like your idea jw, I'll make them an offer. Actually, should I ask instead whats the lowest they'll sell it for? Even if they won't budge I'll still most likely buy it; I've been wanting a Chi-rho Roman coin for a LONG time and have been looking high and low on the internet for a cheaper one but haven't found one.
BTW, jw, since you know the internet location of the coin, do you know by any chance if they ship to the US? I sent them an email asking but haven't received a reply yet.

Yes, they will ship to U.S. And as to whether to ask before you offer, I've found this doesn't work very well. Instead, I would offer 15% or 20% less then the asking price which would give them room to counter offer at about a 10% discount. Most of these dealers don't have large margins to work with, so getting a 10%-20% discount is about all one can expect. If they come back firm, then the decision is yours to make. I have dealers who readily accepted an offer and others who will not even discuss it. My bottom line here is that it doesn't hurt anyone to ask. I know you have been looking for some time now so good luck and keep us informed.

Woke up a little early so I checked my email. I had sent them an offer of $35 plus shipping and they agreed! I know I only saved like $8 but hey I'm not complaining! This little guy is coming across the pond to grace my collection! In addition to finally getting a Chi-rho coin, I also got my first usurper, so Thanks everyone for commenting and thank you jw for helping me obtain this coin for a good price! I'll post pics when it arrives!

Good on ya! I just made an offer of 75% of the original asking price of a nice coin and it was accepted. I will be posting that coin later today when I have some time. Again, congrats for reaching your two milestones. JW

BTW just wondering, have you bought from my source (of my Magnentius) before? Since you knew that they shipped to the US.

The simple answer is yes. A couple of times. Reputable dealer I think.
