MS 64 with a shot at 65, the fields and cheek are very clean.

I'd say 65.... the reverse field by the motto and the rim scrapes keep it down to that level. I'm known to be generous(not liberal) though.

Hey Jeffrose, this one is at least ms-64/ms-65 like someone said already. One this one you dont have the chatter in the obverse fields in front of the face.
Very sweet coin #2! Heck I wish I had just 1 cc. LOL someday soon!

Never thought to grade it when I posted in the VAM thread. A TPG might look at the "wear" over the ear and wimp out to AU58 on it. Me, I see a 65.

To me this looks like a MS-65. Focal areas and fields look to be relatively free of chatter.

Quote:I have the MS part figured out - just need help with the number that follows. The number is just a function of the contact marks and luster. What else is there? This one has clean fields and clean devices which put it presumptively at MS64 on the low side. I'll say it's an easy MS65. If there's wear on it, I don't see it in these pics.

One small thing to calculate on, is what dealer you go through for your submissions,,,There are dealers who have gone to the TPG grading school classes, and when they submit a coin, they usually get what grade they submit it for... I see it as most, a solid MS64, but the OBV face and fields are immaculate, the ear does have wear ? or weak strike.. the reverse has some wear on the breast...but the reverse is about 10% of the grade as eye appeal which this coin has is a WOW coin...Find out the reputation of the dealer and the results of his submissions...if he has attended the grading seminars,,,and his Ideas of your grades, before sending anything in to the TPG's...PCGS brings the best returns..they are stringent on allowing more high grades into there populations, as it appears to deflate the value with more known coins into the market place, A good friend of mine made such a note of todays standards are as follows...MS 64 coin must be at least an MS64.5 coin, meaning almost MS65 to get the MS64 grade...an MS65 coin can not get the MS65 grade unless its much better than MS65...minimum standards... M<ind you if you put your coin along side an MS65 coin you could say its "THERE" but with todays standards...will they give it to you...so one has to do this only when the coins value is worthy of the gamble, or you just joined say PCGS and have free 8 submissions...but better is to have someone with a known reputation and there opinion of what grade they think you truly can receive...Just my thoughts...
