I took 8 pictures and used Photoshop's stacking and animation features to build it and add some cross-fades to smooth it out. In the future I'd like to use 12 or more frames. Ideally I'd have the camera and a coin mounted to some kind of turntable rather than rotating the coin by hand. Stacking the images in Photoshop doesn't work very well (see how the date jumps around). I'd also like to use a higher lighting angle to capture the color better, but it's not possible with my cameraphone/loupe setup because it casts a shadow on the coin unless the light is at a really low angle.

Nice! How did you retone it?

I did not retone it, I purchased it that way and fully aware that it was cleaned. More than likely, it probably spent some time in an old Wayte Raymond/Library of Coins album which are known to occasionally impart brilliant toning due to high sulfur content in the cardboard used to make the old albums.

Cool animation Captain,

This remained me of those animated gif files I was doing for my brother when he had his toy business.

LOL, it took me HOURS to do that one animation, and I only did one side (the other side is mostly untoned).

A little beat up, but nice eye appeal (I'm always amazed at the flaws that macro photography reveals with coins that look perfectly fine to the naked eye):
