Most of these are just plated or corroded and have no extra value. Rarely, a nickel can be struck on a cent planchet or from the wrong metal, and is a valuable error. To determine which it is, please post a picture. Also, you should weigh it with a scale that can measure tenths of grams.

its really hard to tell what you have with no actual description of what you have, and pics of what you have. you can very well have a Jefferson nickel on a cent planchet, but we cant tell without pics.

It will also have a weaker strike as cent planchet is thinner than nickel.

FYI: You can get the weight at any pawn shop, jewelry store, or coin shop.

it looks like discoloration to me, it doesn't look smaller than a normal nickel and it also doesn't look waeker or thinner than a normal nickel
