in particular the striking of it.1927 commemorative parliament house coin. why I ask, just this morning I received one I brought from the US. now when I started to research the coin, I searched many forums, this one included, along with coin sites.during that search, I read that there was a first strike, this strike did not show a lot of detail in the steps and other bits, so they retooled and commenced the full production? is this correct
the first strike was a smallish amount of 4k? how can/could I distinguish the difference between the first and second striking?
i did buy the coin at a premium if it is not what I think it is, as above, but it is unc and as a newb I would think that it is choice or better, it is untarnished and even in shine, to the naked eye some dirt is in the rim grooving? pics or scans will follow today sometime, I'm a bit of a troglodyte when it comes to close ups with the camera or using the scanner. thanks for any advice and or tips given

Wow that is one nice coin. No marks on the surface and no dings around the edge. Your coin is really shiny and quite difficult to spot detail of the steps and other parts, I am going to be annoying and ask can you take a pic with some sort of shadowing, so you can really see the depth of the detail. Anyway the best picture on the net is on this page >> complete with zoom in option you can really get in and have a good look. Go Crazy :) http://www.sterlingcurrency.com.au/...ce-unc-ms-63

Erkle, a coin that nice deserves a premium. See the one in AC's link. This was Oz's first commemorative, and has always been a "key" in the pre-decimal series.
"uniface" means struck on one face only, so you'd have no trouble identifying that one.
AC: that is a nice pic !

that pic at the end of the link is brilliant, if only I knew how, but I will have another go later today. what sort of value would/could this be worth, I paid under $200 delivered, it was meant for another purpose, but could be to valuable for that

a great looking coin for sure. I can only see two steps in the scans - is this the same in real life? a true UNC would show three. I couldn't find any reference to the change in the dies, but then I don't have a lot of info on pre-decimal coins. But if you are right this may be one of them... good luck!

The coin looks UNC/CH-UNC to me, however it appears to be have been cleaned and/or polished, there seems to be evidence of old toning at 1pm on the obverse.

I have had a really good look at your coin, and can not find anything that says that it is different to a normal parliament house coin. It has been cleaned at some point, which is a shame, but there is some lustre coming back. Details that can be seen are the lines in the window frames, and the steps, plus a few small marks. If you are talking a picture with a USB camera, like I do, you can create a shadow over the coin by putting your hand or piece of paper near it. As shown below, then you can really see all the details and imperfections of the coin.
