I am a college student and I have been thinking hard about getting a BU roll of 2009 P Jefferson nickels and sending them to PCGS to get graded. Then holding on to them for later in my life and for my kids...Just looking for opinions guys!

Numismedia 10.00 for MS66 (the same for the rest of the newer releases), I don't see anything particularly appealing in having them slabbed, and it's costly, minimum of 10 bucks per coin (ANACS special).

If anything, I would keep 'em rolled up, did you pay anything over face for them?

I would say that all depends on just how cheap you can get the BU roll.

They may have already had their peak.......

I still save the P or D's whenever I come across them....most not in BU condition.
This endeavor is worth it to me...because I believe there is a "chance" that they could be a future "semi" key.
Not going to ever be a big key for sure.........but the potential is enough for me to keep coin-tubing them and they deserve a place in my collection for now.

Having said all of that, however...... All of mine only cost me "FACE VALUE" too ! .....
I don't think I'd want to pay very much for BU 2009's at this point.

Even though 2009-P nickels are pretty darn scarce in some sections of the country (like where I live), they still made nearly 40 million of them. That's not a lot compared to other recent nickels, but it's still quite a few, and they are easy enough to get from ebay and such if you can't find them locally. While one can never be 100% certain of future trends, I find it hard to believe that they would ever appreciate in price enough to make it worthwhile to slab them. I agree with oih82w8 that you might be better off keeping them rolled.

My opinion is they are not a good investment.
Too many minted, everybody's saving them, tons of high grade coins are going to be on the market forever.

All of those hoarded coins will come on to the market eventually. This is just my opinion, but once the price starts to come down, almost all will come onto the market and the price will crash.
