way way back a little less than a year ago, we started a topic , coin photography for dummies. It was a hit and I have some pretty fair shots , unfortunatly, I can't share them because there is just no easy way to do that on this site. I see a photo resizer thing and I am filled with hope... directions for this are as clear as mud, full of directions like, click on new box, when neither of the 2 boxes are old, so how do we know which is the new one? after much playing around, I thought ok, let me see if I can post one, and nope, it says something about run or save and whats me to download something to my computer? also, why would I have a picture, resize it, then save it , they same thing mind you, only to re download it... this is nuts, so I know I muct be totally wrong. I am frustrated as you folks are so knowledgeable and fun, but I can't play if I can't post my pics, right? every other site I am on, eg Facebook, Navy for moms, all I have to do is brose click, and voila, my picture shows up... isn't there a way to do this here too? what the heck am I doing wrong? I get nuts so I leave for a few months, then get excited about coins agin and try to come back... this is a total drag for those of us that are not computer savoy, and are really not that into it. DO you guys have a fb page? I think I'll go look!

tha Aussie, 70 people have read this and you and buddy are the only ones that even botherd to reply. I have mixed feelings about this group. but it is the best place for info on the web, not for answers to questions all the time, but , if you have the time to sit and read back through scads of old threads you can really up your knowledge pretty quickly. I tired that phot buckt thing, listen, I want to click on the browse phot thing and click on post, anything else is beyond my knowledge set and I am not interested in the compputer enough to learn how to download a photo if it takes longer then a double click or two.

I just went through the image optimizer step by step uploading a 2 MB image. I cropped it and resized it to 70KB. Worked perfectly following the instructions and took 65 seconds.
I really don't understand the problem, you say the instructions are clear as mud, I say they can't be more clear.

Back again I think I understand what you are saying, you have found the REPLY TO TOPIC link and you have gone to UPLOAD PHOTO -- a tab comes up with BROWSE BUTTON and it says where is the photo you want to upload from your computer, you should have to find it and click on the photo you want to select it, then it should go back to the tab with the browse button and you click the second tab that says (UPLOAD TO "YOUR NAME" POST) It will tell you to wait... and then will let you know if your image has been loaded successfully, then you can choose to upload more or just close the tab, you the go back to the reply to topic tab that you started with and finish by pressing the POST NEW REPLY tab! And you're done YAY :)
If this doesn't work just let me know and I will have another look at it.
Yes the people on the forum don't really have the time or patience for explaining to newbie's, I on the other hand do, but you have to wait a while for me to get there as I am randomly on the net.

yes, I get that far but it comes up and tells me my file is to big, so I went to the resize thing ( it's new), and tried to use it, but got totally lost and after 3 tries, well, nothing should be that hard esp when it's so easy to do this on every other site. BUT I think maybe it's expensive to run it or something I don't know.

the basic idea is this...you take a picture with any camera, at any setting the camera is set to, meaning..it could be 640x480 or 4000x3000 pixles...now you have the pic and want to post it...the problem is, the picture size you have is greater than what is allowed to be able to be seen or posted for the CCF site,,the limit is 100KB, less than one meg, when a high resolution camera can take a 5 to 20 mega byte picture... all that is required......you need a photo program to resize the picture... there are many out there for free, GIMP, and I use Irfanview.... save your photo to a folder, the open what ever program you choose, with Irfanview I choose "file" the open and choose my folder my pic is is in, this then allows you to do things to the photo..in this case..I open my photo, choose image on the tool bar and then choose resize image.. if you choose say 640 then save to original folder, at the bottom of the window it will now show you what the saved file size is....if its under 100 KB your good, if its say 122MB, then click on image again in the tool bar and drop your size selection...not the say 1024, and 800 and 640 are static options,, when you open the resize the present number chosen in high lighted in "BLUE" simply type in the lower number and save and observe if the number drops to below the 100K needed to post directly to the CCF sight.. essentially this is the process...take your pic, and resize it to the sites requirements, any photo program will do, hit the green button in the posting box just below where you type your thread, browse and chose where you have your photo that is correctly adjusted for size, for uploading... the basic principle is...1) take photo 2) resize 3)save in any easy spot to find.. 4)upload and post... hope this helps...

Ahh too big a photo... You have your photo saved to the computer so Easily fixed with PAINT This is the easiest and user friendly program I know and everyone has it on there computer.
1) Find your selected picture on your computer, RIGHT CLICK ON IT and an option bar should come up. Move your mouse to OPEN WITH and it should show a few programs to choose from and you select PAINT.
2) If yo have made it this far... you should now have your picture in PAINT program :) Now so you don't ruin your original image, click on the FILE tab and go to SAVE AS... Save a new copy of your image on your computer, give it a new name, and save it in a folder or location where you can remember to find it. Check the SAVE AS TYPE and make sure it is JPEG as this uses the smallest amount of memory space. And Click SAVE.
3) You are now easily on your way there to reaching your goal of 100kb or less for uploading to the forum. At this point you can now check your new image to see how large the KB is on your image. Find your new image in the location you saved it and once again right click on it and it will show a few options and you now want to go to PROPERTIES from here you can see the size in KB.
If you are still over the 100kb it would now be time to re-size that image.
4) Go to your picture in the PAINT program, and find the IMAGE tab and go to RESIZE/SKEW... from here you can change the % of the HORIZONTAL and the VERTICAL, start with changing them to 80% each and click OK. You can continue to resize it till you get what size you are looking for. If you don't like it you can always go to EDIT and click UNDO to return to the previous size. When you are happy with the size click FILE then SAVE and repeat step 3 to see if you are under the 100kb.
Go crazy :)

Honestly Sunny I don't know what to say. There are literally hundreds of photos uploaded here every day. Any time anyone asks a question about uploading the Staff or another member sends them straight to the uploading tutorial and there are no issues after that. You keep complaining about the instructions when they are crystal clear, I don't know what else to do to help you. I cannot give you clearer instructions. {{ Moving this topic to support forum where it belongs. }}

ok, so, the problem may be, " save you photo to a folder. I have tried twice to do that, I have 2 empty folders and pictures of coins that are just on my pictures page, getting them into a folder, well I did it once, but it is not good and now I have no idea how I did it, it took all day and I sent them to Dave, I think he ended up doing it for me, LOL, sorry, but the directions are not clear to people who do not think in computer,. I'm sure they are for everyone else. I will need directions that begin, click on start..... . now if any of you need help in learning word doc, I'm your girl! I've tried the paint box before too, unsuccessful.... sigh, you have no idea. is there a facebook site? or a forum that has the ability to load photos just from my computer with one click?

if you have problems uploading to the site, you can always start a photobucket account and upload them there and then right click the photo's and then post that link here with the img tags [img]your link[/img] and it will show up in your post

I made a tutorial up for you; this is the easiest way to upload a picture to the forum. I guessing you know how to upload facebook pictures -- so from here you can link it to the forum. By linking a photo there is no kb limit as another site is hosting the picture instead of the coin community forum. http://photo-upload-for-dummies.webs.com/index.htm
