Here is a situation that is not too often encountered. This seller has posted a counterfeit made BEFORE 1845 and he is incorrectly listing it as a "sand casting" from the Revolutionary period ca 1910. Here is the coin.
The coin is actually a worn copy of the Riddell # 406. The coin was originally dated 1827 and has a Fantasy mint mark of G (with no small letter inside or adjacent) and assayer initials of AO. The eagle die was used on several different counterfeit varieties:
403 1838 Ms OM 410 1837 G AM 421 1829 P OR 423 1839 P OR
It is also a very close cousin of the following varieties:
227 1833 Zs OR 249 1836 Zs OM 404 1838 Ms OM
Of all the varieties, the 406 is the most common - I have 6 variations of the 406. It was made with a variety of assays but all are far underweight and have 10% silver or less.
I have written to the seller and advised him of the error in his listing.
