I have been trying to find a catalogue value for one of these issues but can't find it in either McDonald or Rennicks. (maybe I somehow missed it.)
RAM site gives mintage as only 5002 in 2003-2004. http://www.ramint.gov.au/about/comp...M2002-03.pdf
Was it perhaps a restricted issue for RAAMC association or some such?

Well. from what I can see the 5 FIELD AMBULANCE R.A.A.M.C. ASSOCIATION originally sold them at $25. They are now fetching $60 (and some much more) on ebay.
I am watching one on ebay now at $59.99 + $6.00 postage. I have a few days to decide if I bid. Of course, someone else might jump in and bid first; then I will probably wait for another to come along.

This was just another attempt by RAM to extract $$$$ out of collectors, These will pop up all the time as long as there are bidiots out there.
Beware I call these RAM/Franklin mint come get me's

I remember there was a real furore about this particular coin. If I recall correcty someone may have tried to corner the market. Their initial price rise was fairly significant.

Wasn't that because the VC dollar had done so well, they thought the same of this issue?
The Weary Dunlop is one of the worst IMO.

There was considerable angst amongst members of the old acbo forum. I can't remember the details though, as I was new to the forum at the time. I seem to recall an argument raging about the medical being the next VC. Some members were talking it up and being accused of ulterior motives. It wasn't a pleasnt chapter. Some of the older members might be able to add their two bobs worth. (I know your here) LOL
