Well I threw some change into the Coinstar near my house today and now I have some extra spending money to buy a coin with. Thinking of getting this one, a Claudius II Tetradrachm. Any thoughts, opinions, concerns about it (has it been tooled, painted over, etc)? Thanks.

The coin looks natural and not tooled and retoned. Overall a nice looking coin.

I was watching a similar coin on ebay today. May be the same coin. I choose not to go after it cause I found a Julian II Majorina Apis Bull I wanted. I can't have them all.

This coin looks right to me. Genuine in all aspects. At least I see nothing to make me question it. It's a nice coin and I love the Egyptian Eagle reverse.

This looks very much like one I bought in September - perhaps a bit nicer. I bought it because I did not have a coin with the L ("year") under the A ("one") and thought that interesting because the L is usually above or to the left. The other reason I got it was the $17 price tag which I considered too cheap. This could have a more clear legend but the surfaces are decent. I like these chunky tetradrachms.

Almost forgot to mention: I tried to negotiate the price but the seller didn't budge. So I didn't buy the coin. But I'm completely all right with that.

How much was the seller offering the coin for?

I'd have to say that I like the reverse best of all about that coin.

$28.50 shipped. Doesn't sound like alot, but I'm really cheap, so that was a little too much for me to pay for it IMO.

I know, I like the reverse too :(

Maybe not cheap, or just frugal perhaps. lol

We all have a budget as well as I do. Often, all I have is about $30 to spend on coins and I want more than one since I just started collecting again.

You did the right thing. Walk away if it goes over budget or you feel the coin cost is more then it's worth.
