Colonial? 1787 Contemporary Counterfeit? Half Penny

Smallcentguy Pillar of the Community Canada 1984 Posts	Posted 11/17/2011 6:38 pm I am copying this from my post under UK coins....I am not sure if it is a UK coin or a colonial. This is a 1787 "Half Penny". None were supposed to have been minted that year. I found on line references to counterfeits made at the time. Do people think this might be one? Would anyone care to hazard a guess on the value? Report this Post to the Staff

Conder101 Bedrock of the Community United States 17884 Posts	Posted 11/18/2011 11:13 am It is definitely a contemporary counterfeit, and most likely a Machins mills counterfeit. Congratulations, a Machins Mills counterfeit is worth a LOT more than your typical contemporary counterfeit. I can't give you an attribution as I don't have the Vlack book but I have found what appears to be a matching piece in the Schettino contemporary counterfeit reference collection. My guess, and it is truely a guess on the variety is Vlack 17-87B. The population is around a 1000 and Conder is right definitely worth a couple of hundred. Nice coin. Report this Post to the Staff
