I bought this detector around 1973 or so (or 1974 or 1975 back then sometime) and never used it much as life and work got in the way. Now that I am retired I dug it out of storage and if I can scrape up enough money to load it with batteries I am going to play with it a little. I know that all the newer units put this one to shame but I feel I owe it some use. At least I never lost the manual for it. And look - a 1973 Mexico 20 centavos coin that came with it to practice on - a few more years and it will be a collectible coin.

Curious, how did a 1973 coin come with the Metal Detector that you got in 1968?

Well you live in Canada and I live near Buffalo on the Canadian border so I guess we won't be doing any detecting in the winter. Now I have to wait til spring, fill my grandaughters sand box up, bury some coins and figure this thing out.

It's a good way to start knowing your machine, you should try different depth to see how your machine react and how deep can it detect coins, some of those MD where very good machine for the time of year they where made.

When I bought this almost 40 years ago I didn't have my grandaughters sand box to practice in. Maybe I can make a go of it now. I think it's going to be fun.

Cool machine!
It looks like an early TR Whites detector as sold by Sears. The large extra coil is unusual.
Probably worth more as a collectors item in that great condition, than a machine to use, as the depth of that machine on a small coin would not be good.
I got my first detector in 1975, a BFO unit called a Relco Mustang and have been detecting ever since.
