Hi Gang,

I want to thank everyone who gave me suggestions on what I should do with the cull Indian Head cents that I have been receiving. As promised here's what I plan to do.

I am going to counterstamp each with my initial's (SK) on the reverse side. Then I will give them to whoever wants one. This is something I currently do to silver pieces before sending them to the smelter.

Your opinions are welcome on this solution.

Is this to keep them from ever being sold for more than a penny? Why would someone want a defaced coin? Mike

Why don't you counterstamp them and then spend them? It will be interesting to see one of them turn up on ebay with a description of how rare the "SK" counterstamp is

Mike. That is exactly the reason. To avoid people from claiming they have any value above face.

While I understand your logic, I would not recommend counterstamping the coins. A worn coin is much better than a damaged coin. Use the coins to inspire kids. Do not worry about what the sleazy people do with a few coins found in circulation.
