Hi grovey,

If you get the coin at the amount you currently bid you will have done well for yourself. IMHO I think the seller has graded it correctly. I would wouldn't have a problem bidding $175.00 or more for the piece.

Mike has this nailed down. I, too, use Heritage completed auctions as well as other auction house sites to gauge the marketplace. Also, Look at ebay completed auctions to also see how the coin has been doing.

I also like Coin Values and Coin Prices to monitor prices.

Hi Grovey,
I saw you were outbid and I'm guessing you were relieved at that result.
Good luck with this key!
Others- there was some speculation at CU that this coin was dipped and pitted:

But seller had a satisfaction guarantee when grovey emailed him. Anyone have thoughts regarding possible dipping and pitting?

SFDukie, I'm glad you posted the C/U link. It reminded me why I seldom go there anymore. Mike

While I don't think this coin is pitted or cleaned, I don't like the look of the left wing tip. I have now looked at the original pics in the auction and the enlarged pics posted in CU. There is something not right there. I wouldn't be too upset at losing it, Grovey.

Grovey.

NEVER-EVER buy key date coins raw.

First, as Susan pointed out, there is an issue with the left wing and also with the lower rim on the reverse. The pics are not large enough to determine if the mintmark is real. There are FAR more fakes than real coins. I do not like the VF grade on this coin based on the pics. In VF current bid is $145.00 current ask is $160.00

Grovey,

Could I offer a suggestion that you search coins on ebay by newly listed and post any here that you are interested in? That would give you plenty of time to get some opinions before bidding for a 3-day, 5-day, or 7-day listing. Personally, I avoid 1-day listings as I find them suspicious.
