i have a 1999 D Lincoln Cent that looks like silver, I cant find any info on it and I was wondering if anyone else has one of these coins, it looks and feels real but the wt is 2.7gr while the normal lincoln is 2.6gr I received it at a quick shop, thanks for any help on this one.

Its a cent that has been plated with another metal,, could be Zinc, aluminum,or silver or a number of other metals,,

Sawing it is a little further than you need to go,, you can scratch the edge of the coin and find out if its Plated copper underneath.

thanks, I notched it with a file and it is copper under it, reckon how it got plated like that?

There are many reasons behind why someone would plate a cent or for that matter any other coin.

School science project, boredom, just to see if they can,, just got a job at a plating company .

At any rate it brought you to the forum so its value is far beyond monitary ,, this is a great place to burn a few hours a week , with lots of great people to talk with .
