Hey everyone, I stopped by the bank today near the college I go to and bought a $25 Brinks Box of Pennies. 20% of which are copper pennies (they are certainly becoming more scarcer). In addition, I found a 1906 Indian Head penny :D An Italian 50 Lire and 6 common date wheats along with a bunch of Canadian pennies. Now how the heck would I roll back the fake zincs ones haha, there's just so many, could I zip them up into a resealable bag and hand it to my bank (Chase) or would I just have to roll them up? Was that your first box? It's hard to find indians these days, congrats! I finally got my first indian this week. And as far as dumping, most of us take coins and dump them at free coin counters that our banks have. Oh, and  to CCF! Edited by murrellington

Congrats on the Indian Head.
I'm 24 boxes in and haven't found 1 yet.
I'm pretty sure at Chase they charge if you bring in loose coins. I would roll them and bring them in. Or open an account at a bank with free coin counting machines, most banks just make you carry a $100 min. to avoid fees.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate all the advice, unfortunately the banks in my area do not have coin counters as they are the more larger corporate banks (Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Chase, US Bank). I'm feeling pretty lucky now that I'm averaging 1 Indian Head per box, it's pretty amazing how those just pop out when no teens or 20s, even 30s Wheat cent ever does. The only teens penny I found was in my backyard using a metal detector (1917) and a cache of 5 coins (all memorials :(), hopefully there are more coins buried in my land, I returned the metal detector which I thought it was weak so I might have to invest for a better more expensive one :) |

The area I live in is also rich in silver half dollars, I used to average like 3-4 90%ers and a couple 40%s to throw in per 100 bucks I bought after school lol. I felt like I might of exhausted the silver a bit (1-2 40% in 150 bucks), it involves walking by foot to many banks which takes quite a lot of time.
But you guys must know, that searching customer rolls are the best way to go!

Just search around your town because they may be some bank you haven't heard of that has a coin counter. or else you can roll them all up and bring them in to wells fargo. |

I got 3 boxes of halves from my branch, spent 1 box, and rerolled the other 2 boxes to make a payment on the credit card and home equity line at a diffeent branch. Those $#%)*%#ers made me unroll 95 rolls of halves to dump them in their counter. Next time it's going to be a 5 gallon bucket of mixed denominations. I was thinking of changing banks to one closer to work anyways. |

nice find. my bank knows that I search them so I just take the junk pennies back to them in a ziplock bag and they give me more. =) works out pretty good.
