Still trying to build my knowledge up with the earlier coins and was wondering if anyone could nudge me in the right direction with the following. None are in great shape but I'm finding that useful as it requires me to look harder at the details and styles. I don't need a full ID just confirmation of what I think or a nudge in the right direction would be great and could save me a bit of legwork:

Three-More-Low-Detail-Coins

Coin 1 - I'm thinking Antoninus Pius rather than Commodus.
Coin 2 - I know this is Volusian from Viminacium - the reason I bought the lot.
Coin 3 - I have no idea about this but would guess its 2nd century.

I IDed 2 out of the 3 coins in my other thread to a degree I'm happy with and I'm still working on the 3rd. I'm hoping for at least the same from these. Coins not in hand yet so I cant provide weights and measures.

Got all 3 for £4 inc postage, thanks in advance.

I believe you are correct about the first two. In the case of the first coin, that looks like victory on the reverse. You are correct about the second coin being from Viminacium what with the lion and bull. The third coin I have in my collection. I will not attribute for you but it is an Augustus struck at Lugdunum. I hope this helps you buddy.

Perfect mate - disappearing off into a search engine for a few hours now

I remember when I used to spend Friday nights drinking expensive beer and chasing cheap women. Oh how the mighty have fallen!

I know what you mean. But in my case it was expensive beer and cheap women. Now I wouldn't know where to look

Well - after a bit of searching I think No. 3 is IDed.

It is indeed 'Facade of the altar of Lugdunum' but I dont think its Augustus, I think its Tiberius (under Augustus) 8-10AD or 12-14. The legend should read:

'TI CAESAR AVGVST F IMPERATOR V or VII' I dont think Augustus issued one of these with 'IMP' in the legend.
The reverse is 'ROMETAVG'.

Was surprised by the prices of these online, even the ones in bad shape like mine!

Time to have a go at the first one now.

Sorry about misleading you, but mine is an Augustus and when I saw the reverse on yours I made the assumption. Here is a pic of mine: Augustus RIC 230:

I agree on the first one since I've been looking for some copper Antoninus Pius coins.

No problem mate, enjoyed the puzzle, would have taken considerably longer without the nudge. The coins are almost identical, certainly the shape mine is in very little difference can be seen. Luckily, of what little legend remains I could spot the 'IMP' and realised it didn't fit right with Augustus.

I'm quite enjoying moving into areas I knew little about, need to start with these lower grade coins till I know what I'm doing and what things are worth though.
