My way of collecting often leads me to buying a coin I do not have and later buying another in better condition. I don't do this if I think I'll easily find the coin but often do when looking for something you don't see every day. In this case the coin is common but not in the condition I'd like. The coin was issued toward the end of the first Millenium (850-1000 AD) by the Shahi kings of Kabul.

The problem with these is they are never well struck across the flan. This one is particularly lacking in the rear end of the lion. I have a coin what is equally good but opposite in that it lacks the lion's head but has a good strike of his rear. Similarly this one has a good strike on the top half of the elephant but gets weak at the bottom. So far I have bought half a dozen of these and hope there is at least one more in my future --- the one with both ends of the lion as good as this head.

That one and including the jital coins from your website seem fairly interesting. I don't imagine IDing one of these coins to be easy. And I also get the impression that perhaps the language is no longer written or spoken either. I bet that perhaps a lot of those coins would cost a lot.

The legends are pretty much a matter of comparing your coins to the ones in the books but after a short while you recognize which letters fal in which place for the common ones. There are not as many choices as with Romans because fewer of the rulers used their names on the coins.

I never heard of these coins before and I like the designs on them even if I don't know much about them. I noticed that you translated a couple of the coins in your articles. But do you know what all of the coins say in the legends?

It seems like most people collect Roman, Greek, Byzantine and biblical coins the most as it seems like there are a great deal of choices to be made and a lot of them seem to be affordable.
