Good evening,

Sorry to ask a valuation question - but...

How much do Australian 1988 Commemorative $10.00 Notes sell for?

Making sense of the book value was a bit confusing.

The serial number of the note is AA 00 079279.

It's in a blue folder from the Reserve Bank Of Australia.

It is worth noting to other CCF members is that the note illustrated here is the World's first Mylar (plastic) banknote.

It's listed in Maccas under "general folders", Ref# Mc$10GF2 - your serial number is "first prefix", AA00. Listed in Renniks under "Decimal banknote collector issues - commemorative folders" Ref# A01(a)1.

My 23rd edition Renniks (2009) lists it at $260. My 17th edition Maccas (2010) lists it at $310.

What coins are listed for and what they sell for are two different answers. I would say that it is worth closer to $150.

Coin guides should have a private sale value of coins and notes!

Sap,

I'm not too sure thats entirely correct.

First prefix was actually AB 10 from memory. the AA prefixes were placed in blue folders as commemorative reissues and sold at a little over face value a while ago, I have 5, all with consecutive serials, it is listed in McDonalds 2012 for about $50 for the AA, the AB is quite a lot dearer.

With Sap.
The first prefix Was AA00
And the last prefix was AB19, According to my Rennics book.
Yours may be aa prefix but what are the numbers after that?
Anything inbetween the first and last prefixes have a book of $65 Unc

With the AA00 0 at the start is it possible that this note is out of a Staff presentation folder ?

McDonalds 19th says:

AA00 - AA23 commemorative issue, overprinted 26 Jan 1988 in blue reserve bank folder

First release (Withdrawn) no date, with 3rd and 4th numerals in serial being 93, 94, 96 only
AB10 First Prefix (first Release)
AB33 Last Prefix (first Release)

Second Release
AB10 First Prefix (first Release)
AB57 Last Prefix (first Release)

i.e first issue first prefixes were along the lines of AB10*93*1234
second issue firsts were anything AB10 with the 3 and 4 serials more than 96, eg AB10*97*1234

Staff issue - could be anything AA000xxxxx - but only 500 or so were issued

It is most likely not a staff Issue, serial is too high and he also mentioned it came in the blue commemorative folder. the staff issues came in the grey folder with two notes side by side, and I dont imagine anyone would be so stupid as to remove a staff issue note and put it in the blue folder.

Does the staff issue have the overprint date on the note? that could clarify.

The date is printed on the other side. I picked the note up for $22! The folder is damaged, but the note is perfect. Whatever it is worth, I find it aesthetically pleasing.

Instead of making a new thread, I thought I'd ask here. I have this banknote, AB 31839703. Could someone give me a value for it?
