I have a question about specimen strikes for the small cent (I am only interested personally in those after 1937).

I have found references for specimen strikes in several but not all years from 1937 to date.

37, 38, 44, 45, 46, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 52 and 53 in SP
then 1966 to 1970, before beong regular releases in 1971 to date.

So what about the other years ? Were specimens struck for every year or only those ones ? There are 5 years I havent found reference to between 37 and 53, then nothing til the 63 ?

Thanks.

Specimens were struck in 1965 as well.

There were 1964 specimens as well, but they are exceedingly hard to come by. The 2010 report showed only a single coin certified. I don't remember where I saw the mintage figures for 1964 SP sets, but if memory serves there were well less than 100 made.

Random question, but did BU cents of the sixties have a proof-like appearance?

Hi coinsearcher83 - some BU coins have such a high finish they may look like PL and in some cases can be hard to distinguish from what I've seen though the actual PL cents have more of a "cameo" finish on the dates then regular business strikes. Maybe someone else can help a little more.

I have also found mention of the 64 and 65 SP strikes although only V1 and V2 for 65. I also found a 1963 SP. It seems they are out there for other years but the population is so low they dont get much mention anywhere.
