I think some sellers are hoping that people can't tell the difference between a large date and a small date. Although it is a little difficult at first, I think most people can tell the difference with a coin in hand. Seems like there are tons of "Small dates" that are really large dates on ebay. I guess either the seller really doesn't know (unlikely) or they are hoping a few "suckers" will buy them and not realize they are really large dates.

that looks like a LD proof, and ebay is full of listings that aren't small dates.

Wow, you don't even need to enlarge the pic to tell that one is definitely a large date. Caveat Emptor.

They are using a stock photo to sell a raw coin, which is a violation of ebay policy. Reported.

Quote:They are using a stock photo to sell a raw coin, which is a violation of ebay policy. Really? I don't do this, but didn't know it was against the rules. There's plenty of stock photos for coins on ebay. Most of them say its a stock photo. Most of the "bulk" listings have stock photos. Unless the person says "coin in photo is the one you will receive" with the stock photo, why would it be against the rules. A stock photo is more helpful than people who have pictures of random stuff. The other day I saw a coin being sold with a picture of a women.

It sure is, but I doubt its enforced that much due to sheer volume. Here's the link to the ebay policy: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies...rstamps.htmlIf you scroll down to the section dealing with raw coins is reads: Quote: The listing includes a photo of the coin being sold. Images that are dark, out of focus, edited, or might be misleading aren't allowed. Also, stock photos aren't allowed.

Huh, it really is against policy. Who knew. There's literally countless stock photos all over the coin section. I've also recently seen a picture of a woman, a bear, the ground, a guy's face, a few with a landscape, and some I can't identify at all....all purporting to be selling coins.
There is actually this one guy that uses stock photos and his listings should be removed. He always posts listings of "near complete" sets of various types and has stock pics of really nice almost full sets. Then you read his description and he talks about 20 coins this, 30 coins that.....basically garbage, and certainly not what his picture is at all.

Wow, I got an email regarding these cents from ebay: Dear David, Thanks for reporting this listing to us. I sent your report to our Coin Community Watch group for their review and they agreed with your assessment of the coin. As a result, I removed the listing. Again, thank you for your report David. We appreciate your help in keeping ebay a safe and reputable forum to conduct business. Sincerely, Judith ebay Customer Support
