In latest Noble Auction 98, a Elizabeth II 1966 proof set in sealed 1969 case was sold at $2600 withou adding buyer's premium. There were only 12 sets of 1966 proof coins were sealed in plastic case which was later used from 1969 to 1984.
In McDonald 18th edition, this set was priced at $750. I am always big fan of 1966 coins and always want to have a such nice set for my owner collection, then I did a bid of $800, BUT you can see that it is far from the winning bid. Looks like I will have to give up for this typical set. SAD...........

Commiserations on losing out ADMISLSE. Demand seemed to be really high across the board for these auctions - I bid on 7 straight items and didnt win a single one.
By the way, was that proof set sold during the session where one postal bidder brought like 30 or 40 lots in a row? If so, was he the one who got it?

I think I might have been at the session where it sold, although I dont recall the 66 proof set. I bid on some world and Australian gold.

and I don't think it was the same bidder that bought all the gold lots... but don't specifically recall...

I meant it was the same bidder bidding on a series of decimal proofs sets. There were quite a few buyers for the gold.

Yeh I am lucky in that regard - the city is like 30 minutes away from me - which gives me access to the auctions and all the coin stores in the CBD (there are like 6 or 7).

But for those either Light or Dark Blue cases ones are much cheaper. You can see them from every auction, price from $160 - $220
