Hello everyone. I'm just curious about this coin and figured someone here probably has some info on it. I bought a couple of these when I was probably 13 or 14 which wouldn've been around 1993-94. I've been trying to find out some info on them because I'm deciding whether to sell them or keep them. What I know is that they only made these 1 gram(~1/28 oz) pandas in 1991 and the only source I've been able to find says that 110,000 of them were made. I've searched the internet and can't find any of these for sale anywhere. I've been checking ebay and never found any listed and haven't seen them on other coin sites either. With such a limited one time production of these coins and because they seem pretty hard to find I would think they have some value to collectors other than just the gold value. Basically I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea what they might be worth and how much I could realistically expect to get for them if I tried to sell them?

1991-3-Yuan-Gold-Panda?

Are you sure that they aren't 1/20 of an ounce? Could you post a picture?

My guess is that they would be worth a little over the spot price of gold. In the world of foreign coins, 110,000 is a huge number.

I don't have a picture but they are the same design as the other 1991 gold pandas. They aren't the 1/20th oz pandas. Those are 5 yuan. The ones I have are 3 yuan 1 gram coins. '91 is the only year they made these 1 gram coins in addition to the 1/20th oz, 1/10, 1/5, 1/2, and 1 ounce gold pandas.

They sure can strike gold coins small. Almost like minted GOLD DUST.

Take Care
