I know I read it here somewhere but I don't remember where, how do you tell which is a replacement note in the current series? Any one know?

Unlike previous series which used either a * or a X to identify them, I believe there are no distinguishing features in the current Journey series or new Polymer series.

Instead, I believe that there are published "ranges" of serial numbers that have been confirmed as replacement notes. You can find those ranges in either Charlton's Canadian Government Paper Money catalogue or on the http://www.cdnpapermoney.com forum.

I have never gotten into collecting replacement notes in the current series because they really aren't identifiable to anyone outside the collecting world.

I didn't want to start a new thread. I'm trying to find out more about the replacement notes in the current series as well. Can somebody help me out where to find the list online. I am not having luck finding it in the link above. Thanks for your time!

Don't think there is an online list, Charlton's list is compiled from brick searchers (most of these are on the cdn paper money forum) as per Canuck1us' link. The printers' don't want you to know the replacements for some reason, maybe it makes their Quality Control look bad.

There is a list online, at the Canadian Paper Money Forum http://www.cdnpapermoney.com/forum/ (Like canuck1us mentioned)

You need to be registered there to see it (Registration is free) then go to "Serial Number db" at the top. Once you're in there, just scroll down and there is a list of all the prefixes, just click the one you are interested in, and you can see the insert ranges.

A solid question. There's no way to just "know" off the bat. Charlton's guide is one way. I had no idea about this Gilles guy. It's so easy to pass off notes that MAY have value, but it's hard to keep them because they're meant to be spent.

they should go back to the original way and use an asterick.
