Larraine: welcome to the CCF!

Unfortunately, it looks like Post Mint Damage to me.
I don't think that the line above the platypus's bill is a stick floating on the water..........

Besides the coin you have pictured, what aspects of coin collecting interest you?

The definitive 20 cent denomination is somewhat of an unsung hero of Australian decimal coinage. I have spoken the the designer of the coin, Stuart Devlin, and he said of the 20 cent design, that it was the most satisfying of all of his coin designs.

He remarked that is very hard to depict water on a metal surface such as in a coin design. He said that in this case, the water depiction turned out very well, and the intended design still works, even when the coin is very worn.

Stuart Devlin was goldsmith to H.M. the Q. for a number of years.

The designer's initials 'SD' appear near the platypus's right flipper.

I dont't understand how such damage could be done without the rim being affected?
