ATB Five Ounce Silver Coins

An interesting twist for me: My order for the 2013-P Fort McHenry National Monument was cancelled today.

I ordered the Ft McHenry and the Mt Rushmore on December 1st on two separate orders. Last week, I called in to update my cc information on all orders. Two days ago, I got an email notice saying the Mt Rushmore was shipped AND a separate email saying I need to update my cc for both of my orders or they will cancel the orders. Today, I just received another notice saying my Ft McHenry order was cancelled.

I called up customer service, and here are how things goes:
1) Meredith picked up. After I explained to here the situation, she checked the account, put me on hold, then came back and told me something along this line: "When you ordered the product was on backorder, which mean no guarantee that you will get the product, so when they charge your card, it declined, and they cancelled your order, because they didn't have the product reserved for you in the first place (other people in front of you got all the coins)...."

I wasn't satisfied with her answer so I called back.
2) Debby picked up the phone. After the verification process and explain to her what's going on again.... I was put on hold... after a while, my call was dropped.

So I called back the 3rd time.
3) Karla picked up the phone. After going through the process again... she put me on hold.... when she came back, I got pretty much the same explanation. I told her that I ordered when the product was available to the public on the web... after pushing for more answer, she pretty much explained kinda like this: Since it's a hot product that's sold out, when the run your cc, if it's decline, they just cancel your order... I went on to ask for 'what about those returned products?', she said she did asked her supervisor and the answer is that 'we don't have any'...

I am not happy the way the US Mint is handling the ordering process!
Now I have to deal with the secondary market for my missing coin....
Anyone have the Ft. McHenry -P version on hand that can share some pictures?

With some bad taste from this incident, I don't know if I should try to get the Ft. McHenry -P version or just get the bullion version instead? What do you think?

All I can say is, there will be plenty of opportunities to get other 5oz ATBs from the mint over the next few years so I wouldn't worry about it.

And I wouldn't get upset with the folks at the mint, they try their best.

I'm looking forward to next year's 5 oz pucks from the mint and the Baseball HOF set.

It seemed like in the Back Order period, they just take in as many orders as possible then working on producing those coins..... may be the Mint ran low on silver blanks and decided to use whatever left for Mt Rushmore instead of McHenry, which ended up created a shortfall on the available coins vs number of ordered...

I agree with Penny, there are many more of them to get latter down the road. I don't get mad at the Mint customer service department. I lay my blame on the mishandling, bad management, of the Mint's bobbleheads.

I have been thinking since I have interests in other silver coins also and I can't afford both the bullion & -P 5oz ATB of every design for every year (still short 2012 and half of 2011 designs)... may be I should just get one coin per design total (I have to decide which version for which designs), in this case I don't want to chase the -P version of the McHenry and the Perry; I'll be getting the bullion version instead (two of these for one of the -P version). Now the hard part is to decide on getting the RAW bullions or GRADED bullions? My 2010 bullions are graded though...

I know when displaying them, it will not look uniform but if looking at the collection as a whole, this approach will be more manageable/affordable and I am able to showcase some contrasts in the two design.

I had an order for some "hot coins" that sold out from the Royal Canadian Mint that were were limit 2 per person - I was able to preorder them (due to being a Masters Club Member - those that spend over 1,000 in a year) then on back order for many months - They finally shipped ( and did not even send a notice they were on the way) I was gone on vacation and when I came back there was a notice I had a package from FedEx - well FedEx sent it back since I didn't pick it up. I called the mint and asked where my coins were at and explained the situation, they checked and could not find any in stock other than the one coin- hard saying were the ones I had ended up. You'd think they would of done more being a Masters Club Member - Oh well SOL I guess.. I'm sure the mints suggestion on the ATB Coins is to order with the Subscription program -

I received my bullion Ft. McHenry on Monday and compared it to my UNC version from the Mint. The bullion version does POP better that the UNC, however the bullion version is not as refined as I thought it might have been. It has more of a standard "coin" look than the UNC with its Vapor-blasted appearance. (This is my first 5oz ATB bullion coin, I do have full sets from 2012 & 2013.) None the less, it is a welcome addition to my collection.

Yes, I saw this earlier as well. I wonder why the negative numbers for items not sold for a bit? I thought only a week to return items from the mint. I guess it could be that they didn't process returns so quickly

for me...one absolutely perfect. The other had scratches and abrasions on both sides. Looked like someone took the "puck" thing literally
