Teach, I've always maintained that the two finishes are really comparing apples and oranges. The bullion PL finish is great for uncluttered designs like Yosemite, Hood, Acadia, etc. Any design with complicated details, Glacier and Olympic comes immediately to mind, the details are obscured by the brilliant finish, however, with the toned-down vapor blast finish, the details are far easier to see, and the coin has a more uniform look matching its siblings. That's why some collectors collect both, it's two dramatically different kind of coins.

I hope they continue to mint both well into the future. Maybe they can just lower the mintage to make them more wanted by the average collector.

I'm pretty sure the Mint did lower the number of the uncirculated this year from 35000 to 25000.

I believe you are correct on the mintage. Last I read I think the last few releases sold under 10K. That worries me..

Yes I know. I haven't bought a few lately since I was holding out because of the lowered spot price hoping the price might go down again. Doesn't look like that now. I also think that the first year had lesser of the bullion than 2011. I'm not sure of 2012 for those. I like to get them for a Christmas present for some family members. I did get Gettysburg last year when the price was lowered.

I think he the bullion ones for a lot of the 2012 have had real sluggish sales. The chicashaw one last year didnt sell many bullion last I checked either. I used to get them all but once you miss 1 or 2 its not a big deal not having it anymore. I like them a lot but they need to stop releasing them when theres like 5 other silver things coming out. To much to buy all at once

I know. I missed the first 4 due to being 279 per. I started when the price came down to 229. I still have 4 plus the first 4 I didn't get. I was lucky to find a Yellowstone bullion at my local shop a while ago

I have the 2011s but have held off on the 2012s so far. I saw the P versions of them at a US MINT store in DC and they look amazing other than the price. I really like the Arcadia and Chaco for the new ones. The El Yunque doesn't really excite me though. For some reason it feels more like a foreign coin to me just because of what its for. I think it was a mistake to put out the Puerto Rico this early in the series before people were really invested in completing it

The fact that the most well known parks got issued early on in the series, Yellowstone, Grand Canyon, etc. will help the series as more collectors discover the ATBs.
The bullion/uncirculated sales are sluggish because they are expensive, not too many collectors can afford to shell out $175 per coin five times a year or $205 for the uncirculated numismatic coin. The legislation should've authorized a 2"/2 oz. silver coin, instead of the 3"/5 medal size. A missed opportunity.

The PM lobby wanted the 5oz size. They were hoping for a significantly lower per ounce markup (the 1oz ASE has a $2 markup when sold to APs). Congress screwed it up when they imposed the 3" requirement, something the mint was to have difficulty achieving. When the mint finally met the requirements, the coin would cost the APs almost as much per ounce as the ASE and was therefore of little interest to their PM investor customers. Congress was probably thinking that the mint was already striking 3" bronze medals but forgot about the density and hardness differences. If congress had asked for 2 or 2.5 inches, or left it to the mint to set the size, they might have been able to bring it to market sooner and at a cost that the APs could attract customers with.

With silver spot price on the rise..... the price of $155+/- is long gone..... I will have to wait until the next dip to try and get some of the bullion version of 2011 & 2012.

Personally, I think these ATB coins are very Beautiful. that being said, they are still bullion, but the fact they are very nice bullion, they will always bring a premium in my opinion. If the mint stopped making the series, then I would think the price of these coins should spike.

I hope silver is on the rise again and continues on that way. I just ordered the Volcanoes (pre-sale) puck from Provident now before the prices go up even more. I think the "P" mint mark, vapor blasted version comes out in 2 weeks and I am sure I will pick up one of those as well. I'm excited to see what this one looks like on the 3 inch canvas.

Hawaii is the first design since Mt Hood about which I am really excited...please tell how it looks, vis a vis how we all wish it were produced: as a true proof...
