The question is will that hold up over time. The 2012 two coin proof sets were selling in the $200 range after they sold out and now people are getting them for $125-150 on ebay. I will watch these from the sideline for now. |

I do not think comparing ATB 5 oz with ASE's is a good comparison as the collector base is larger for the ASE's and not many are into the 5oz coins. Even within the 5 oz ATB's there are subsets of collectors The mint version The bullion version and some who collect both. Then there is also another group of collectors that picks and chooses their state / designs they like / parks they have visited etc. SA4H....I agree with a lot of your comments. I just wish the mint would stick with a regular schedule for these coins. |

I almost think they are doing this so the 2013 sell out quickly. Sometimes I think the 2011 P was slow to sell out due to the great quantities of the boullion version

The 2011s also got hit hard by the price of silver which did cause a lot of people to go for the bullion instead.

What kind of ATB 5 oz coin collector are you? After reading what Ceylon62 posted above made me start wondering what kind of collectors do we have following this thread. Do you collect only the "P" vapor blasted pucks from the mint? Do you collect only bullion pucks? Do you have all of both? Do you only have select "P" pucks for one reason or another (like the park, like the design, like the price)? Do you only have select bullion pucks for one reason or another? Maybe just for the PM? Do you collect only graded pucks? Do you just collect a variety of these 5 oz coins? (graded, not graded, mint, bullion) Myself I have at least one of each of the "P" pucks and the bullion version. I have more than one of certain coins. Some of them are graded as well. Plan to continue on this way as long as I can. |

I liked them from the start but wasn't paying 279 99 for them when they began. I bought Gettysburg after the first price decrease to 229 95. I purchased most at the 204 price. I don't have the first 2 or last from 2012 but was lucky to get acadia as well as Hawaii at 204 and thankful since both as we know sold out. I have visited most of the parks and that is another reason why I like them. I like them for the silver content as well. I did get a Yellowstone bullion

I don't see the 5oz ATB's as coins. I will buy one but I would not have it graded or be a high grade. I would just buy it for silver value. |

I sold all bullion except Denali. I have a few +P coins which I choose, some graded, some not: Mt Hood, Gettysburg, Denali, Olympic. I had Hawaii and sold it (to a fellow site member: minimum profit). It is interesting but didn't hold my attention.
ETA: oh yeah, I also had Glacier but sold that.

i have all the P versions from the mint 2010-present I know I've taken big hits money wise for buying them all, but I dont care cause they look amazing each and every one, even if the mint is going to overcharge us for the new 2013 series (with silver around the 29-30 range )im in it to the end - hope it makes it that far

I do like the Hawaii design myself but I would say it is one of the ones the larger size doesn't add anything to it. Having the quarter for that is sufficient for me. Judging from the comments the committees made for the 2014 design recommendations I think we will be seeing more designs like that unfortunately. |

Please explain...I missed that. I think some modern designs are cool, but as you said, I don't think the large version helps Hawaii compared to the small proof...which I LOVE!
On one hand I wish I had bought a Hawaii bullion when I got Denali for $175, but something just tells me neither one would stay long in my collection. Is the Hawaii bullion like looking at a monstrous Britannia--almost too shiny to enjoy--or is it cooler than the +P? I may never know...

I love the hawaii quarter as well it looks great in that size. What I mean by I think we will be seeing more designs where the large size doesn't really help a lot comes from some of the designs that were rejected. For the Smokey Mountain coin the committee Quote:

That to me means they want less detailed coins like the Hawaii where the quarters could look real good but the larger version will fall flat. Denali-P was placed on backorder status today on the website. As everyone should be aware of by now, it is a preparatory move towards a sellout.

Thank you! I was waiting on AK, but I guess I will call and order one. Haven't been to the park but I have visited Alaska so I would like to have this one.
