So how do we all feel about this? I saw some hole filler silver on ebay and figured id place a starting bid, and nobody else bid... So, I'm stuck with some circulated silver now. I know its no steal but did I do ok? I'm planning on keeping them so I feel like I did ok... Ha oops!

I don't think you burned the doors down with this pickup, but if they filled a couple of holes then I don't think you should worry about it too much. I like Barber coinage but (and I don't get this about ebay) I don't understand why common date Barbers go for more than melt on ebay. I can pick them up at local stores in the 90% buckets.

Yeah the ones in the image I guess. I knew I overpaid in terms of silver melt, because it would be around 15$, I paid 20$. Just curious if anyone was going to laugh at me.. I was hoping it wasn't laughable! And yes, I noticed the barbers are a little pricey on the bay...

How about as an investment in the long term.. I'm young now.. since I'm not a fan of selling, id imagine these will become more valuable over time? And thanks coinstar...

I got stuck with this one this weekend. Tip of the day: don't get drunk and then start shopping on ebay.

overtime if silver climbs the coins will become more valuable. These would probably be tied closely with the spot price of the metal content since there are no key dates and they are not in super high grades. The Barber series is a pretty popular series and most usually sell for more than spot on ebay every day. So I do not think you did badly and if this is a lesson I think it is allot cheaper than some I made when I first started collecting. But if you plan to enjoy them as you stated for many years then I believe you will definitely get your money worth out of the coins. As far as someone laughing at you for your purchase, there may be other sites on the web that this may happen but if you had made a big mistake the people here would be the ones to try to help you figure a way to get out from under the mistake than sitting back and laughing at you for making a mistake. I know I made a few mistakes when I started and probably will make some later on but its the knowledge you acquire from the others that will help you to determine which deals are good and which ones are bad so you do not keep making the same mistakes over and over and never know it until its to late to do anything about it

josh, nothing to be laughed about here dude. While there may be one or two fools hanging around that would deride you, the vast majority of the folks here are pretty good. So not something you need to worry over.

Secondly, no lesson to be learned here. Saying you learned a lesson would indicate you made some type of mistake. There was no mistake made here. You paid slightly over melt for decent though not spectacular coins. A Barber would have to be darn near smooth for me to chuck it as melt, and these are certainly better tahn melt coins IMO. So while its not a "steal" its still not a bad deal.

Josh, I noticed you paid $2.75 shipping in addition to the $20 for the coins, so really you paid $22.75 for these coins, not just $20. My point being, always consider shipping costs as part of the coin purchase costs. Just fyi.

But in all, you have a handful of neat old silver for not a whole lot of money, and that's never a bad thing. With the future of silver looking bright, should you decide to sell any of these down the road, it probably won't take you long to make back your purchase price.
