I just purchased three London mint coins. The pictures used by the seller are terrible, so I will wait till I have them in hand to share the images. They are coming from within the U.S., so they should not take too long to arrive. The first coin is a Constantine I AE3 Follis, RIC VII 159: OBV: IMP CONSTANTINVS AVG, helmeted, cuirassed bust left, spear over far shoulder REV: VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP, two Victories standing facing holding shield inscribed VOT/PR on altar decorated with diamond (Helv. 2a), PLN in ex. The second coin is a Licinius AE Follis, RIC VII 3: OBV: IMP LICINIVS P F AVG, laureate, cuirassed bust right REV: GENIO POP ROM S-F, Genius standing left, modius on head, loins draped, holding patera & cornucopia, PLN in ex. The third coin is the most interesting and the cheapest of the three. I am posting the sellers images because I would like to get confirmation of what I think it is. I believe it may be an AE Follis of Crispus, RIC VII 144 var: OBV: CRISPVS NOB CAES, laureate, cuirassed bust right REV: SOLI INVIC-TO COMITI, Sol standing left, chlamys across left shoulder, holding globe and raising right hand. Crescent in left field. Mintmark PLN. Toone 194; Bourton-on-the-Water hoard 1464-1466. I am in no way certain of this attribution, but looking at the images of the reverse I believe I see a crescent in the left field. If this is the case along with the legend on the obverse I think I may be correct. Your opinions please.

Very nice, quite jealous of the Sol and the Pop Rom.
As far as the Crispus goes it can only be:
S P, S+ P, S* P, Crescent * or just Crescent in the left field - would need to see better pics to be sure, all were minted in 317/318.
The Crescent is possibly there to mark the birth of Constantine II or Constantius II.
Very nice pick-ups.

Quote: quite jealous of the Sol and the Pop Rom I thought you might be seeing as how I know you are collecting these London mint coins. I got them all for a song (figuratively speaking of course) and I was thinking of you when I bought them. I don't particularly collect London mint coins (although I like them), so if there is a coin you need or want, let me know. We might be able to work something out. Hmmmm, let me see.....

Quote: Bourton-on-the-Water hoard BTW Bourton-on-the-Water is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been in the UK, those who can should go there, those who cant should google it and have a look at the pictures. When I win the lottery I might have a weekend place there

Those sound like (and look like for the Crispus) pretty good purchases. Can't wait to see your pics of them.

The coins came in today and I can say they are some of the nicest coins of this era that I have in my collection. I have to wonder if the seller had taken better photos would he have gotten higher bids? You be the judge about the quality of each coin. All are London minted coins. 1. Constantine I, RIC VII 159: 2. Crispus, RIC VII 144 var (it is a crescent in the left field) 3. Licinius I, RIC VII 3

Quote: The Licinius is a beauty! My thoughts exactly. I have three other Licinius I coins, none from London, and they don't begin to compare to this one. I'm very very pleased with these coins.

Each of these three coins came with a flip insert and all identified each coins provenance and a previous price: The Constantine I (the reverse indicated a $75 price): The Crispus: The Licinius I: I didn't pay even close to the amounts indicated so I think I done good!

The price tag on the Licinius doesn't surprise me. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't pay that but thats what I would expect them to be priced at from a dealer.

I was just in touch with Dane from Wildwinds. She says she would like to use the Crispus as an example on Wildwinds. If she does, that will make two coins I have listed on that site. I feel honored (I'm not sure why. Its the coin not me).

Congrats jw! It is an honor to have a coin in your possession showcased there. I have a few examples that I know are better than ones pictured on the site, but I do not have a camera or the skills necessary to take good enough pictures of the coins! Ahh well I shall keep trying. I will definetly let you guys know if I ever have coins that make it on there and show you which ones they are. BTW I am over that Licinius!
