Well, I am adding to my zoo series. I got this Gallienus RIC 245 a couple of days ago. I am having a bit of trouble with the mintmark though. I think it is an "A", but am unsure. I guess it could be an "N". What do you think?

Nice coin, I can't make out the mint mark though. Congrats on going over 1000 posts.

Thanks, I hadn't noticed. Do I win a cupie doll? I'd rather have a coin.

These images are those of the seller and I can't seem to magnify it without it becoming distorted. I guess I will have to wait until I receive the coin which may be a while as this one is coming from a supplier in Spain.

It is an N but the Rome mint at that time tended to make N look like III. Compare the mintmark and the N's in NeptuNo.

Currently there is another thread on CC showing a new coin of Gallienus that does have the correct form of A in the mintmark. That coin also has an N in the legend providing a good comparison of how they made these letters at this mint at that date. Closing the top of the letter A was not always in fashion for much of the century.
