Just got back from the post office with my new coin. I like the green patina on this coin.

Hey that's a nice one. Winged Horse Springing Right. There's that N that looks like three III's that dougsmit mentioned in another post. I keep going to the post office and there's NOTHING

I hate waiting on coins especially since most of my coins come from spain, UK and germany they can take a few weeks to get here so I know how you feel.

Nice coin. Just too bad Pegasus is missing his front half . Not a bad portrait of Gallienus. Most can be bad just in the artistry, but this one looks pretty good. Congrats.

thanks, I didnt really know what to buy when it came to ancients but seeing the coins posted in this forum gave me some direction and I'm learning alot. I thought that this was an overall nice coin besides the headless horse the patina is a dark green but you cant really tell from the pictures with lighter almost lime green spots.

While it is a nice coin in several ways, I do like the way it shows the III style N at the top and the open top A in exergue which can be compared to the A in AVG (OK that A and the Pegasus head could be more clear but it is still a nice coin). Note also that the V in AVG is open at the bottom. The style of the day did not place importance on straight lines running into each other to make these letters. Look at the AVG on the obverse. Coins can be pretty or they can be educational. This is both. I hope you will value having it in your collection.

thanks dougsmit for the info I think this is one of my favorite coins so far.I have noticed the V,N, and M's on other coins looking like II or III's. This coin looks so much better in hand it has a nice green patina and portrait. I have some more really nice coins coming soon and cant wait to show them off.I always learn something from what the forum members have to say about the history and their knowledge of these coins. It makes it a more interesting hobby learning as I go. I bought a cd rom with over a hundred roman coin books on it and just got it in the mail so I will hopefully have some reference material if not something to use to get myself more acquainted with the background/varieties of these coins.

The CD books tend to be very old (out of copyright) and hard to find what you seek because they are not indexed or searchable but they can be fun to look through and educational if you find the right pages. I have the one on Indian coins and have enjoyed it but it took work to understand how to use beyond random searching.
There are also modern CD/DVD eBooks on coins which I have never seen. On seemed interesting to me but the very first sample page shown on their ad contained an error making me doubt the worth of the whole project. The advantage of new work is that it tends to be searchable rather than just PDF scans of old books that are hard to use. In either case errors or outdated information will be found. It is just like this forum - you can't believe everything you read but that doesn't make the whole thing worthless. Enjoy.

I ran across this coin for sale just after reading this post . Thought it makes an interesting comparison with jessvc1's coin. I believe this first coin shown here has been "tooled" and something to be on the look out for. Notice the difference in letter styles. The reverse legend is...... I don't know what? Some let me know if I'm wrong please.

both our coins have the same A's,V's and mint mark but the other coin doesn't match. The pegasus is not right either.
