As you all probably know by now, I love my Dansco 7070 U.S. Type Album. Finding it was the best thing that happened to me as a neophyte coin collector, and I've been having a blast filling it, upgrading it, and photo-documenting it. As I was working on the photo-documenting part of it, however, it occurred to me that there's no place to put all the modern varieties that have been coming out of the mint in the last few years (the 2004 Westward Journey Nickel Series, the 2009 Lincoln Bicentennial cent Series, the 2010 America the Beautiful State Park Quarter Series, the 2010 "Shield" Lincoln Cent, etc.). So I went to the Dansco web site to see if they had any updated pages for modern coinage and discovered the 7070 album itself is out of stock. Now, this may be a temporary state of affairs, but it got me wondering whether there was any cause and effect going on here. Is it possible that the mint is churning out so many different varieties lately that the whole concept of a single "U.S. Type" album has itself become obsolete? I'm personally not all that interested in collecting modern coinage minted in the tens (or hundreds) of millions, but I still love the idea of being able to see all the different types of coins and their evolution in a single place. And it makes me sad to think that future generations may not have the chance to assemble an album like I've had the pleasure of doing. I had planned, for example, to get my 6-year-old son a 7070 album of his own in a few years, but I'm thinking I had better grab one now for him in case new ones disappear entirely...

Hmmm... I might have to bid on that one just for the slip cover (and then I could save the album itself for my son...)

New pages to add to the existing 7070? I am building my collection based off of the 7070 concept of major varieties, albeit "slab" versions, do you think that Dansco will update the whole album to include varieties left out previously?

I started my type set almost 2 years ago. At that time I bought the 7070 and asked the question if it was going to be updated. I was told it was going to be updated, but it hasn't. I have since sold the 7070 on ebay and am using the method that oih82w8 is using, slabs. The raw ones go in Coin World Premier Coin Holders so everything has the uniform look. My type set is based off the the coins in the 7070, PCGS Modern and Complete sets, and the NGC US Type set including Moderns. Basically I made a chart of the coins in each of these sets and determined what a complete set would be. I then removed some coins that I can't afford and there you have it, my own type set... A type set should be whatever you want it to be... I wouldn't hold my breath waiting on Dansco to update the 7070. I have been waiting patiently for some replacement slides from them for about a month...

One of the advantages of photo-documenting my 7070 album is that I can digitally add some extra types that aren't actually in the album. So far I've added an 1853 Liberty Seated dollar with Arrows & Rays and the 2011 Silver American Eagle Reverse Proof. As I pick up additional coins that aren't currently represented in the 7070 album, I'll try to keep updating my site.

barryg, I would like to see that " 1853 Liberty Seated dollar with Arrows and Rays" you are referring to. Is that what the [brackets] are on your 7070...empty, not yet filled with actual coins?

Quote: So I went to the Dansco web site I do not know what site you visited but Dansco does not operate a retail website nor do they even have a business website. They are old-school with a telephone number and mail address.

http://www.danscoalbumstore.com/faq.phpQuote: Are you the Dansco Corporation? No. We are US Modern Coins, Inc, a direct distributor of the Dansco product line I was wondering if that was the one you found. I do think their site name is a bit confusing, you are not the first person to make that mistake and you certainly won't be the last

As far as I know, the 7070 is (and will always be) a 19th & 20th century type set. All of the "missing" types are 21st century issues. This also explains why there are no places for the earliest issues from the late 1700's (18th century). Rumours of updates and companion albums have been around for a while. Best way to find an answer is to call and ask what their plans are. Dansco Corporation (323) 734-6373 4313 W Jefferson Blvd Los Angeles, CA 90016
