There were 2 King Georges and Queen Carolines. Both of them were involved with, shall we say, interesting bits of British History. George II married Caroline of Ansbach (1683-1737) in 1705. I suspect that your piece is for this match of George and Carolines as the workmanship seems to match this period more than a hundred years later. She was involved in British politics, and did a lot to make the German Hanoverian Kings more acceptable to the British public.
The other was Carline of Brunswick (1768-1821), who married the Future George IV in 1806. She was separated from him, and not allowed at his coronation. She died 3 weeks after the coronation.
The parts of the legend that might explann it easier are under your thumb- there should be a roman number (II?) after GEORGIVS in the inscription GEORGIVS ? DG MAG BRIT FRA ET HIB REX -GEORGE ? BY THE GRACE OF GOD BRITAIN FRANCE AND IRELAND KING. The inscription on her side is inconclusive- CAROLINE DG MAG BR FR ET HIB REGINA (Queen). I will go with the style and striking and call it a medal for the coronation of George II and Caroline in 1727. I have forgotten what the MAG stands for.

thank you for the info. yes, the coin is "georgivs II", but obviously no date on it. since it was found in Alabama, I was just wondering how it came to be in alabama, was this a common medal? thanks again for the info!
