I actually agree with him. I thought they'd go to 2009 and end it's run- but nothing productive ever gets done in Washington. I think the Half Cent was worth 11 cents when it was eliminated. Heck, what really needs to happen is a complete overhaul of US coinage. make the penny worth 5 cents make the nickel worth 10 cents make the dime worth 25 cents and the quarter worth 50 cents eliminate the current half dollar coin and there you have it...

Entertaining Very convincing, I'd have to agree with the practical side even though I do enjoy collecting them.

He mentions at 0:49 in the video that the Mint makes 4 million pennies a year, that should be 4 Billion...

Quote: He mentions at 0:49 in the video that the Mint makes 4 million pennies a year, that should be 4 Billion... Other than this and a few other bits of misinformation (5% copper in a Zincoln? More like 2.5%) I like it.

This guy makes very valid points. I wouldn't care if the penny went away. That'll just make the ones I have collected more valuable. Apart from errors and possibly some die varieties, they really aren't worth bothering with anymore. I also think the dollar bill should go away as well. I hasn't hurt any country who has eliminated them and I kind of like using dollar coins. Besides they last much longer.

This was a good video, other than the fact the guy spoke so fast.

Pennies are useless in 2011, in my humble opinion. But man are they fun to search and collect!

Quote: That'll just make the ones I have collected more valuable. Quote: But man are they fun to search and collect! I agree. I have said in the past that I would like to have seen the cent discontinued, but remain as a part of annual mint and proof sets (preferably in its 95% copper form). At least make them NIFC like the Half Dollar (adding a premium priced direct purchase bag and/or roll option).

I love this video. Thank you for posting it. I agree that the penny should go but I also believe its not going anywhere? Why? Politics and the unwillingness of the two major political parties in this country to work together. I can just hear it now- "You are sticking it to the middle class" the Democrats will say. "It's a socialist plan to increase your taxes" Republicans will say. Sounds crazy but that is exactly what these politicians would say. I have a better idea. Donate the pennies you don't want to viable, independent, third party candidates. That will being about real change to our pocket change.

I truly believe if we all don't start using cash more often we will be become a cashless society very soon. So use cash for purchases and hope for some nice coins in the change. We have received 2 silver quarters recently in change! Alone with a few wheat pennies! Use cash or it will surely disappear!

This guy had a lot of information to squeeze into 4 1/2 minutes. I guess this is why he talked so fast. I did enjoy it though. And I do agree with him. The penny has to go. But I really doubt that if the government does decide to eliminate them that it will increase the value of the existing pennies. There are simply too many of them to have much effect on the price for a long time.
