In my opinion, I think that that is a gas bubble that occurred in the plating process.

Meldude...That is a pretty square looking gas bubble...?
Never heard of that before, is it a common thing, do you know...?

It says, "TM/MC", meaning Trade Mark/Marque de Commerce. Since the Olympics need to indicate that their 5 circles are a trademark, and being that signage in Canada is mostly bilingual (English and French), this appears on many logos on the market. Oddly enough, this doesn't appears far above the 5 rings on the 2010 Inukshuk dollar. On the 2004 dollar it's just indicate by an encircled M.
