While I am begining to understand that some things are just what they are, I was looking at a 1937 dime today and the seller was asking over $900.ish and it had a cresent shape in the facing. I am wondering do all blemish's like that make a coin that much more valuable ( and yes I understand rarity, but at what point ) sorry if it is an obvious answer just to new at this to understand, but I am getting some of this stuff from here and have learnt a lot more from here then in my research of books and internet.ship

I don't know much about dimes, but off-hand I would stay clear of that 1937.
If you can somehow retrieve a photo that would help.

If it's this coinwe're talking about,it's a gas bubble, and the asking price of $950 is quite optimistic. The first lesson for coin collecting is "caveat emptor".

That is the coin I was talking about so if it looks to good to be true, then I should run away from it. I hva elooked over some of his other listings and I think I just don't have the kind of money to throw away on something that is a little off the original press.Thanks... I am learning so much so far from new posts and past posts that its all starting to make sense.ship

Like DBM says, 'let the buyer beware', if I were you I wouldn't even think about paying $900+ for that coin, when you can pick up a MS64 for $40.00 or so.

For the 1937 10c there are two different Half-moon varieties. One on the Obverse and one on the Reverse. The Half-moon on Reverse variety is encountered more often. Both occur at about the 10 o'clock position and are quite noticeable in the field. The cause of the variety is probably some sort of polished-out die damage, leaving a raised crescent-moon shape. (Not a gas bubble, since there are many identical coins.) It is interesting looking, but I doubt there's enough collector demand to charge big bucks for it. I'd expect to pay a slight premium over trends for the novelty of it. ~ JFK ~

That dime is still up for auction. I'm glad you steered clear of it.

Another reason to stay away. Superfleas pricing.
